'Virdalea' is situated in the village of Quarff which lies just over five miles south of Lerwick mainly on the west side of the A970 main road south road which puts Lerwick and all its amenities within easy commuting distance.

Quarff has its own village hall whilst primary schooling is provided at nearby Cunningsburgh about four miles to the south, secondary schooling at either or Sandwick or Lerwick, with school transport available.

The house, originally a manse, later a post office, and then a house, is attached to the Quarff Church of Scotland which is earmarked for closure and is now being advertised for sale.
