General Information

‘South by Ronas’ is situated in the North Mainland area of Shetland about 10 miles north of Brae, the area boasting spectacular rugged scenery around Ronas Voe and Ronas Hill which lie just to the north of the house, and also nearby Eshaness.

Amenities in the area include local shops at Hillswick (about 2½ miles from the house), and Ollaberry (just over 7 miles to the south), plus there is a café and camping site at Eshaness to the west. There are several primary schools in the area including at nearby Ura Firth, and also Ollaberry, plus a health centre at Hillswick.

A wider range of amenities including The High School, swimming pool & leisure centre, and Co-op mini-supermarket can be found at Brae, the main population centre for the North Mainland.

Accommodation

Entry is via a single glazed porch with fitted cupboards and plumbing for a washing machine, plus an inner door to the hall. Off the hall is the kitchen, bathroom and living room.

The kitchen is a reasonable sized room with a window to the front of the house facing south. There are some fitted units and a couple of sinks although re-fitting is desirable. The solid-fuel range is unlikely to be in working order.

Next to the kitchen is the bathroom. Again re-fitting is required. A fitted cupboard houses the hot water tank.

At the other end of the hall is the spacious living / dining room which benefits from a large south-facing bay window enjoying a fine view over the surrounding countryside to the voe of Ura Firth. A stone fireplace surround houses a cast iron stove although this requires replacement, but there is also a Dimplex Quantum storage heater (there is another similar heater in the hall).

Off the living room to the rear is a further hallway with back door, another storage heater, and doors to two bedrooms both with built-in wardrobes, a south-facing double again enjoying the view over to the voe, and a west-facing single room.

Property location

To locate the property drive north on the A970 road through Brae to Ura Firth. At the top of Ura Firth Voe pass the junction for Upper Urafirth and take the next right to Heylor & Swinister. Follow the road for about ½ mile and then veer left (straight on) to Heylor by a small quarry. Turn first left to Assater and follow the road past a timber clad house on the right, right to the end. Drive straight on through the gate to 'South by Ronas' which is the single storey white cottage ahead of you.
