Porto Vista is situated on the south side of the West Mainland of Shetland approximately 26 miles from Lerwick, in an attractive rural location enjoying fine views across Skelda Voe to the village of Skeld where there is a marina and small campsite, the village also having fuel pumps and a primary school. Additional amenities can be found at Bixter about 7.6 miles back towards Lerwick (a shop / post office which also sells fuel, health centre, veterinary surgery & garage) and Aith, three miles north of Bixter where the West Mainland's Junior High School (primary & secondary schooling to year 4) and leisure centre / swimming pool are situated. Further information about the West Mainland area can be found at:-
The property is of Scandinavian style timber frame / timber clad construction below a concrete tiled roof. Windows are double glazed (the entrance door is triple glazed) and heating is provided by electric panel heaters plus a solid-fuel stove in the living room. All carpets and other fixed floor coverings, curtains and blinds, and light fittings are included in the sale along with the wardrobes in both bedrooms, and the bed in the single room. The rest of the furniture is available by separate negotiation.
Entry is to the side of the house where there is a covered porch area and door to a wood-lined vestibule with coat hooks, laminate flooring and an inner door to the hall, which like the rest of the house is laid with laminate flooring, the space being attractively finished with painted paneling to a dado rail.
On the left is a built-in shelved airing cupboard housing the hot water tank, and then the living room / kitchen, an attractive, bright space with two windows to the kitchen area to the left, two further windows and a glazed door to a covered veranda to the front, plus another window to the living area facing north, the walls being clad with painted ‘v’-lining, the solid-fuel stove providing a cosy heat source. The kitchen area to the left has fitted floor and wall units including an integral oven and hob with concealed cooker hood over, plus an inset sink and plumbing for dishwasher and washing machine, the washing machine being included in the sale along with the fridge / freezer. Off the living room is a further dining area / study, a handy extra space, with north-facing window and separate access from the hall.
The remaining accommodation comprises two bedrooms, a double and single, the larger room enjoying a dual aspect with one of the windows looking out over to the voe, and a shower room, again finished with painted ‘v’-lining, comprising a wet-wall lined shower enclosure with electric shower & glazed screen / door, plus a white WC & wash hand basin.

The property sits in a good-sized site estimated to extend to around 0.16 acres, the site mainly being laid with stone chips for low maintenance. Access is over a track shared with three other properties, including the adjacent chalet, which leads up to the property where there is ample parking and a drying green to the side of the house. Outside the entrance door is a wooden garden shed approximately 2.9m x 2.2m with additional wood store and greenhouse at either end. External cold water tap at rear of property. A covered decked area runs along the front and south-east side of the house providing a great place to sit and enjoy the fine views over the voe. It is thought the site would provide sufficient space to extend to the property if required although any alterations would be subject to the usual consents required and prospective purchasers satisfy themselves in this regard.
Understood to currently be Band A. Prospective purchasers should however contact Shetland Islands Council directly for confirmation. Details of Council Tax rates can be found on Shetland Island Council’s website at:
To reach the property drive southwards on the B9071 Reawick / Skeld Road from the junction at Park Hall on the main west side road at Bixter. Take the second Reawick turning on the left on the approach to Skeld, pass the fuel pumps and take the next road to the right just past a modern detached house with a large agricultural shed on the left. Follow the track down towards the shore, cross the cattle grid and turn left to ‘Porto Vista’ which is the first of the two detached chalets.
