General Information

'Nordheim' is situated on the north side of the island of Whalsay which itself is situated off the east coast of Shetland. Often referred to as the 'Bonnie Isle', the island measures approximately five miles long by two miles wide, the population of around 1000 enjoying an excellent range of local amenities far beyond what might normally be expected in such a location, these being centred around Symbister, the main settlement just over two miles from the house, and including a Junior High School (primary & secondary school to year 4), two general stores including a post office, a doctor's surgery, various social & recreational facilities, plus a marina and boating club in the harbour area. Sporting amenities include a leisure centre with heated swimming pool, games hall, fitness suite, squash court & all-weather sports field, plus Britain's most northerly 18 hole golf course at Skaw.

A regular ro-ro ferry service runs throughout the day from the terminal at Symbister to Laxo / Vidlin on mainland Shetland about 24 miles from Lerwick. Crossing time approximately 30 minutes.

The house is double glazed and heating is provided by electric storage heaters. The house was re-lined and insulated internally in 2017. There is cabling for satellite TV to the living room, telephone points in the hall, kitchen & bedroom 2, and all carpets and other fixed floor coverings, the window blinds and light fittings are included in the sale.



Entry is via a uPVC door to the north (sea) side of the house which opens to a porch with double glazed windows to either side, coat hooks and an inner door to the hall.


Lined with painted 'v'-lining below a dado rail, the hall has wood effect 'Karndean' luxury vinyl flooring and doors to all rooms. A hatch with pull-down ladder provides easy access to extensive storage space in the large loft which has a Velux window.

To reach the house from the ferry drive around the harbour and follow the road up the hill passing the shop on the right. At the top of the hill turn left following signs for Skaw and the school / leisure centre. Continue for a couple of miles passing the care centre on the left and turnings to New Park & Tripwell on the right. Shortly after the Tripwell houses turn left to Brough. Follow the road up and over the hill to a whitewashed property on the roadside to the right. The access to track to 'Nordheim' is immediately after this property; 'Nordheim' being the first house in on the left.
