Former Methodist Chapel in attractive rural situation overlooking Benston Loch at South Nesting, approximately 15 miles north of Lerwick.

The accommodation in this detached building comprises the main 36ft x 17ft hall, an office / kitchen, and toilet.

Externally there is a large bitmac surfaced parking area.

The building may suit other uses, including possibly residential, although this would be subject to the usual consents required and prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves in this regard.

General Information

The building is situated close to the primary school and village hall in the South Nesting area of Shetland, an attractive scenic area about 15 miles north of Lerwick. The location is also convenient for access to Brae / Sullom Voe to the north.

In addition to the school and hall where there is a small caravan and camping park, there is also a local shop just over a mile away which also sells fuel, and a community gym in the old school building just along the road from the chapel. A morning and evening feeder bus service connects with the main bus service to Lerwick.

Further information about the wider area can be found at

The chapel is a single storey detached building, the main part being stone-built. Windows are uPVC double glazed and heating is provided by electric storage heaters although these have not been used for some time and no warranties will be given.

The rateable value is understood to currently be £1,900. Prospective purchasers should however contact Shetland Islands Council directly for confirmation.

The property is being sold in its current condition. No warranties will be given in respect of any contents or services.

Entry to the property is via a wood-lined hallway with doors to a toilet, office / kitchen, and the main chapel space.

The wet-walled lined toilet comprises a WC and wash hand basin. The office / kitchen, also wood-lined, has a window facing north-west looking out to Benston Loch, a sink, again with its own instant hot water supply, and an original fireplace although this is decorative only as the chimney has been removed. Finally the main hall is a large space, also wood-lined, with natural light provided by two windows to the south-west gable with distant views to Vassa Voe, and four Velux rooflights.

Property location

To reach the property take the B9075 South Nesting Road from the main A970 road north. Drive to the local shop and turn right to Benston and South Nesting School. Follow the road for just over a mile and continue past the Gletness road to the right, heading north-east. Shortly after the junction is a pale green timber clad house amidst treets on the left. The access to the chapel is immediately after that house.
