6 Bellevue is situated in the centre of the village of Mid Yell on the island of Yell, the larger of Shetland's North Isles, Mid Yell being the island's main population centre and the location of its main amenities which include the Junior High School, a leisure centre & swimming pool, and also a health centre, all of which are within easy walking distance of the house. There is also a small shop; further local shops can be found at Aywick and also Ulsta about 10 miles from the house.

Measuring about 19 miles long by 7½ miles wide and having a population of around 900, the island of Yell is connected to mainland Shetland by a regular ro-ro ferry service which runs throughout the day from Ulsta to Toft about 28 miles north of Lerwick. A similar service runs from Gutcher at the north end of Yell, to the neighbouring island of Unst.

Pass both junctions to Reafirth, and a third junction on the left, and turn next to Linkshouse Pier.
