The village has its own primary school (older pupils go to Sandwick or Lerwick), a well-used community hall, a marina at Aithsvoe plus a farm shop & café by the main road junction. The village hosts Shetland's biggest agricultural show in August.

'Griesta' is the second house on the right as the road turns around to the right and goes down the hill.
